Things To Do At The Grand Canyon

Being one of the most popular attractions in the US, the Grand Canyon attracts an average of more than 4 million visitors every year. Its enormous rock formations, ridges, and gorges mesmerize even the most hardened critics.

Buck Wild Hummer Tours is here to go over some must-do Grand Canyon activities off your bucket list!

Scenic Viewpoints

Some of the key stopovers that offer the best views of the canyon include:

  • Yavapai Point. This overlook is very popular among those who visit the park’s South Rim due to the amazing scenes it guarantees. The Yavapai Museum of Geology is just close by, and you can visit to learn about the Grand Canyon’s history, ecology, and geology.
  • Mather Point. This spot offers incredible first-time views of the ravines and stony crests.
  • Hermit’s Rest Fireplace. From the outside, this structure resembles the canyon’s exterior features. Still, inside, it has an impressive arched alcove with a stone fireplace.
  • Mohave, Powell & Hopi Points. These three viewing locations, located along the scenic Rim Trail and Hermit Road, offer panoramic and breathtaking views and are ranked among the best overlooks in the park.
  • Desert View Watchtower. This is the easternmost stop on the South Rim and features a viewing deck with stunning 360-degree canyon views.
  • Toroweap Point. This is one of the most photographed sites on the far side of the West Rim.

Find Dinosaur Fossils

The Grand Canyon is full of fossilized remains, which you can explore as you walk around. A Buck Wild Hummer Tours family package includes an interactive exhibit where you can even see and dig up some fossils.

The Rim Trail

Most scenic spots on the Southern Rim are found along the Rim Trail. This is the most visited part of the canyon and is conveniently served by a shuttle. You can hike all the way, board the shuttle, or hike part of the trip. This trail is also the only section in the entire canyon where you can walk with your dog, and some of its sections are accessible by wheelchair or bike. You will enjoy picturesque views of the canyon all along the trail, with some of the best scenes being between Hermits Rest and Bright Angel Trailhead.

See the Grand Canyon from the Sky

Whether the Grand Canyon was formed by Paul Bunyon dragging his axe or by geological events occurring over millions of years, if you haven’t seen it, it should be on your bucket list. And while you can view this unique canon by car, bus, or on foot, there is another unique way to see much more of its glory. By air!

On a combined helicopter and hummer tour or airplane and hummer tour via Buck Wild Hummer Tours, you can fly over the North or South Rims, the Colorado River, Kaibab National Forest, the Tower of Ra, Vishnu Schist, or the Dragon Corridor.

What You’ll See on Our Tours

Choices of a combined helicopter and Hummer tour of the North or South Rim include either a 25- or 45-minute helicopter ride with spectacular views of the Kaibab National Forest and the Colorado River. You’ll get to see the Tower of Ra and Vishnu Schist in a way incomparable to other ways of sightseeing and on return to the airfield, see the majestic Dragon Corridor.

With these aerial tours, you will also spend approximately 2-2 ½ hours on the ground by military-grade Hummer stopping at a few of the best viewpoints from the South Rim.

On the Canyon Discovery Airplane and Hummer Combo Tour, you can also catch aerial views of the North Rim, including the Kaibab National Forest and the Kaibab Plateau, along with sensational views of the East Rim, Painted Desert, Zuni Corridor, and Imperial Point.

Back on the ground, you will also have a chance to see some of those spectacular views of the South Rim with a total of three to four stops.

The West Rim of the Grand Canyon is not part of the National Park but rather is part of the Hualapai Nation. Here, you can find a variety of air, ground, and pontoon boat tours, as well as The Skywalk.

How to Prepare for the Grand Canyon

What you should wear for sightseeing at the Grand Canyon depends upon the time of year and the type of tour you will be taking. In general, it is best to dress in layers from spring through fall and warm winter clothing from late fall through early spring. Remember although we think of summertime as the Grand Canyon has an elevation on average of 7,000 feet at the South Rim and 8,000 feet at the North Rim. It can be chilly up there.

Any time of year wear sensible toe-covered shoes, sneakers, or hiking boots are best. You may also wish to wear a hat and apply sunscreen to your face and arms.

You might think taking pictures with your cell phone will be enough as mementos of your memories, but we highly recommend you bring your camera. You will experience breathtaking views and may take that once-in-a-lifetime photo on your trip!
